It is widely accepted that the invention of the makeup brush was by the Egyptians for use amongst their well-to-do. Centuries later, in 1925, the BBC reported the discovery of a Saxon Cemetary in Argyll Avenue, Luton where buried amongst the remains of the wealthy deceased dating back to 600 AD was the handle of a cosmetic brush. In fact, up until 1835, when German chemist Justus Von LieBig invented the prototype for what was to become the modern day mirror, makeup brushes were primarily tools for the wealthy who would have their servants create various looks using makeup. Brushes then began appearing all across the globe with the Japanese, who had been using animal-hair brushes since the B.C. days for their calligraphy , quickly transferring their skills to making cosmetic brushes.
